As the worst part of winter seems to draw to a close, we are starting to think of other season's sports. (I am a little hesitant about that sentence, and feel susceptible to a mid-spring blizzard!)There is still tons of snow everywhere, but we have become completely spoiled by "good" snow. So now if it has not snowed in several days, the conditions seem ill advised.
We are itching to start sampling the area's climbing spots, with Wild Iris & The Wind River Range at the top of the list. So, one afternoon I got home with not enough time to head to the slopes, and headed to check out Teton Canyon with the pooches.
There is great access via Alta, Wyoming, which is in between Driggs and Grand Targhee. The 12 km loop is groomed, and very popular with nordic and crosscountry skiers. We had a great time walking and enjoyed great views of the Grand most of the way. I was a little nervous about the etiquette, since most of the traffic was on skis, but it seemed like a congenial mix of enthusiasts. We even saw two other weimareiners. It is definitely a hot spot for dog owners.
I saw two adolescent moose nibbling on branches. I was particularly aware of how tough it is for them to simply get around in the deep snow, let alone find food. Enjoy the pics!
