Piste Off

Actually Off Piste is what I have finally started doing. I have been snowboarding a little over two months and now I am learning the joys of hiking in bounds at the resorts. For instance, to do the Headwall at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, you can take the gondola and start hiking. Hopefully a boot pack makes the short and steep hike a bit easier. If you are fit, you might pass a few huffing skiers. When Phil and I climbed up to the Headwall on Sunday, we saw a skier being videotaped jumping off a rock and a truly spectacular tumble/ multiple somersaults. Don't worry, we are not yet cliff-hucking. It is windy at the top, but if there is any visibility, you are rewarded by a stunning view once you get to the top of the mountain. Sunday's springlike conditions were a big plus, so we weren't hiking in oodles of clothing. We somehow got first tracks in the area we descended, and the snow was a peculiar but fun mix of heavy powder. Terribly fun and rewarding!

I also got to climb Mary's Peak and Peaked Mountain at Targhee this week. It was such a blue bird day, that the quality of the views outweighed the fun of boarding down. We took lots of pics and, for today at least, the views of the Tetons were incredible!
