Septembuary

We left for City of Rocks Friday evening and it seemed like summer. We returned last night, and contemplated plugging in the space heater. Saturday at CoR, we were chasing the shade, and had a great time exploring a crag called The Building Blocks, while Courtney & Kaylan, coworkers of Phil's, checked out Steinfell's Dome. Fierce winds during the night threatened to sweep C& K away in their tent, but we slept pretty soundly in Clyde. Sunday, we got mildly rained out after a few routes at Bumblies, then headed out to The Drilling Fields when the skies cleared. More fierce winds seemed to be expediting the arrival of winter. Monday morning, we decided the lower elevation of Castle Rocks might give us warmer temps. With the addition of a few layers, we climbed at Castle Rocks despite repeatedly changing skies and a dash of hail/snow. So crazy! Summer has evaporated! I hope there will be a true fall, but my heart sank a little as I drove over Teton Pass with the rear defrost squelching some frost crystals and saw fresh snow at the tops of the trees.
