Lander in Fall

We headed to Lander this past weekend to get our fill of steep sport climbing. Lucky for us, the aspens were in full, flaming, yellow splendor, particularly at Wild Iris. We drove up to Wild Iris late Friday night, and sacked out in the van. We woke up to a panoramic view of fall at Wild Iris. We climbed at the Main Wall until our arms wouldn't hold another pocket, then headed back, which happened to be right when an enormous storm began racing towards us. It was incredible to watch the size and speed of it, but a bit scary realizing we were the tallest thing around!

We made our way quickly back to the van and down into Lander. We went to the city park to cook some dinner, which is surprisingly a great place to camp and picnic. We even made some fellow vdub friends, a couple from Ohio and Quebec who are spending their honeymoon as a year-long road trip in their Westy. We were jealous, but fast friends!

After a mandatory evening at the Lander Bar, we climbed at Sinks Canyon on Sunday were we continued to have great weather and no crowds. For you climbers, we were fortunate enough to have just received some Miura VS La Sportiva climbing shoes for both of us, and I have to say they were totally awesome. Check them out if you want to climb some steep, hard stuff! Wind & Rattkesnakes and Bloodline were our favorite routes of the weekend.

Again mega pumped from an endless supply of pockets, we headed back over Togwotee Pass and home. Clyde has already racked up an impressive list of mountain passes in the short time we have had him, and I have to say he has tackled them extremely well. But, when you are going about 28 Mph on Teton Pass, it is pretty humorous to see the irritated hot shot in his Audi fuming behind you. You kind of want to give him the peace sign and say "Hey Man, take it easy!"
