Knowing that some people might be getting bored of hearing about my adventures in Snowydaho, I thought I would start a blog rather than continuing to fill up people's mailboxes with snowy pics and tales of juvenile moose in the parking lot. After 5 consecutive days of snowboarding, I am shivering, sniffling, and sneezing underneath a down comforter. I decided not to make it 6 days in a row, although that seems like such a shame. I did progress in my second week of snowboarding to actually riding the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Gondola. Although, twice yesterday I went careening down the slope on my back, head first, snowboard in the air, like a helpless bug. It was pretty funny and for some reason mostly painless. The rest of my body seems to have recovered from the first weekend of boarding, which made me incredibly sore.
Thanks to a tip from my landlord, I shoveled snow ONTO the base of the house this morning to improve insulation and efficiency. Jasmine's theory for conserving heat is to keep her bed as close to the heater as possible. She spends about 98% of her time in this manner. No, I have not bought her snow booties. But yes, she does frequently wear a blanket when heading out. Except for a real cold spell a few weeks ago, the dogs' feet seem to do remarkably fine. I however, have decided that the stacks of shoes in my closet are ALL useless for this weather. No more heels, cute slippers, etc. The more waterproof and insulated a boot I can stick my feet into the better. So, I am off to bundle myself up for a trip to the post office. I am glad to say it is a short walk away, as is the entire business district of Victor. A horse trotted by yesterday pulling a sledder! Hopefully our Christmas cards didn't get mailed to us AGAIN! So, someday, you might be getting a Christmas card from the Hoffmanns. Trust me that it will still be snowy when you do!

How long does it take to get to decent skiing from Victor? How much is a weekly ski pass? Is there a fair selection of motels/hotels in Victor?
Grand Targhee Resort is 20 miles from us and is on the Idaho side of The Pass. It gets the best snow, but has less total skiable terrain and less elevation gain. Jackson Hole Mountain & Ski Resort is a little over 20 miles (over Teton Pass) on the Wyoming side. It is the most famous, biggest, most expensive, and most difficult mountain around. Both are awesome. You can take a bus to JHMR from Victor Mon-Fri. We like them both for sure.
Targhee is more mellow, more powdery, and less crowded. JHMR could be described as da Bomb, somewhat intimidating, but awesome. Since Phil works at JHMR, we can ski there for free, which is awesome. If the length of stay allowed, I would recommend getting a taste of both, but a lot depends on your ability and what you are looking for- extreme scene or mellow scene. The other benefit to JHMR is that you can easily take a shuttle bus into Jackson to do shopping, sightseeing, and dining, and there is also plenty of stuff right there in Teton Village. Targhee is a bit more isolated. I definitely think the blue runs here are more like black diamonds in comparison to other places I have skied!
You wouldn't need a motel since we have an extra bedroom and a pullout couch! But, there are more places to stay in Jackson & Teton Village than in Driggs (ID), Victor (ID), and Alta (WY).
Check out the websites for multiple day passes. You may be able to find online providers who offer packages at both resorts- a sort of sampler.
